Stepping into San Diego’s Bali Hai restaurant an instant message is thrown at you– that of vacation. It was clear that this restaurant was Hawaiian themed complete with tikis and bamboo umbrellas. These were the most obvious signs of encompassing the vacation vibe. Alongside this were aspects of placement and location. The inside space was completely open with a circular bar in the center and floor to ceiling windows exhibiting the outside palm trees and ocean. It was clear that the focus on attention was in two places: the bar and the ocean which is what any average American would call a vacation. The menu was a whole situation where piña coladas and Hawaiian based dishes were on clear display. It was clear that the owner wanted to exude a relaxed and fun environment and did so successfully as this was all you could feel in the restaurant it seemed.
